“Nunc per speculum in aenigmate”

Ask for his lean face and they will tell you
   it is lost in mirrors
      pursuing its own vanity
         beyond the flesh and bone
beyond the looking and the glass
      pursuing even beyond the dark
   glazed eyes
      reflecting with unceasing mirth
         upon their own reflected vanity

I am Nimrod the enigma
born on the day of incoherence

I am Nimrod the enigma
     who stood still above Givon

I am Nimrod the enigma
who languished in the valley of Ayalan

I am Nimrod the enigma
who came back to YHVH the Unknowable

I am Nimrod the enigma
who imprisoned the kings of the Yevusim

I am Nimrod the enigma
who brought gifts for the three Magi

I am Nimrod the enigma
the Levite deprived of his inheritance

I am Nimrod the enigma
     trumpeter of Yareyacho
          freemason of Bavel

Who at the grave will sing my praises
   pour the wine of tears
who will labour at my side
         with truth of heart?”

Ask for his lean face and they will tell you
it is gone beyond the mirror
               crystallised
invisible except to those who see
what is reflected in the prophecy
