The Inner Door

To listen to The Inner Door, click here

Beginning from the darkness
     you grope towards the light
Where another half-formed question
     is refracted by the night
But the answer is uncertain
     and the meaning is obscure
And the world only opens through the inner door

So you start the endless journey that is never of the feet
To form the perfect circle that can never be complete
And you stumble through the desert for forty years and more
But the world only opens through the inner door

Now your arms are clasped about her as you take her to your room
And you lock your limbs together like the darkness and the moon
Ah to heal yourself in love of all the scars you won in war
But the world only opens through the inner door

Through shadows and shelters and journeys of the mind
To that perfect thoughtless silence that you thought you'd never find
Then somewhere you learned the secret and you pierced it to the core
And the world slowly opened through the inner door

Now the moon is slowly sinking and the day has come again
And the morning light is springing from the darkness like a flame
Soon the chrysalis will open and your heart will find its cure
And the world will surely open through the inner door

But the sea goes on for ever and the tide turns at the shore
And the world only opens through the inner door
