Ah
the king of love’s a tyrant, his throne is made of dreams
His
beauty is a painted face that’s never what it seems
He’ll
burn you with a fire brighter than the stars above
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Let’s
sentence him to servitude of unrequited lust
Tie
him in a coxcomb or bind him in a truss
Condemn
him to eternity and if that’s not enough
Then
overthrow the king of love
Let’s
overthrow the king, let’s overthrow the king
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Let’s
overthrow the king, come on everybody sing
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Let’s
take vengeance for our sufferings, our sorrows and our fears
Make
him live with Jezebel at least a thousand years
Make
him know the misery we’ve all had our share of
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Send
him to Delilah, she will rob him of his power
Make
him spy on Messalina hour after hour
You
see hating doesn’t hurt you, no not even half as much
Let’s
overthrow the king of love
Make
him trust to Cleopatra wherever his ships are bound
Make
him see Medusa every time he turns around
Leave
his flesh as carrion to tempt the holy dove
And
overthrow the king of love
The
king of love’s a sadist, he loves to see your pain
No
sooner are you out of love, he puts you in again
When
walking hand in hand with him, beware the fisted glove
Overthrow
the king of love
Punish
all his wickedness, take his broken heart
Lash
it to the crosspole, nail it to the mast
Make
him hear the Sirens and know what they’re speaking of
Overthrow
the king of love
Yeah,
let’s wake him every hour to make love once again
Each
time he claims love’s purity, make him see the stain
When
he rides you like a stallion straddled from above
Overthrow
the king of love
For some reason I never sing the last two verses; perhaps just the feeling that the song should have made its rather pointless point by then, and is growing tediously overlong .
